Council Rock High School South in Newtown is set to receive a stadium after a two-decade wait, following a unanimous vote by the school board to move the project forward, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
The board received a standing-room-only crowd Thursday night that erupted in applause and cheers after it approved contracts for the design and management of the $7 million phase two stadium renovation project.
Boyle Construction will receive $313,700 to oversee construction, while Marotta/Main will be paid $540,000 to design the new 3,000-seat stadium at the Northampton Township high school, complete with bathrooms, a concession stand, and a press box.
The latest work will complete the stadium project that started five years ago with phase one, including the installation of a turf field, an outdoor track, and bleachers.
Once finished, the stadium will give the school, the only one in Bucks County without one, a home field for sports, competitions, and outdoor graduation ceremonies.
“As evidenced by the turnout at this meeting and all the communications we have received, this is something the community very much desires,” said Upper Makefield board member Cheryl Rickert.
