State Awards $800K for Solebury Township’s Former Quarry Initiative

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources granted $800K to Solebury Township to support the quarry acquisition.

Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has awarded Solebury $800,000 to support the acquisition of a former quarry within the township, writes Chris Ullery for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The funding is part of more than $1.8 million in state grants awarded across Bucks County and over $82 million allocated statewide to almost 300 projects through the Conservation and Recreation Program to expand open space, trails, and parks.

Solebury secured the largest grant in Bucks County following its partnership with Solebury School to acquire the 166-acre former New Hope Crushed Stone and Lime property for $3.2 million last year.

In a joint news release, Democratic state Sen. Steve Santarsiero of Lower Makefield and state Rep. Tim Brennan of Doylestown said early plans for the quarry call for a Central Bucks EMS station, a Bucks County Public Safety Dive Team training site, and installation of a dry hydrant to support emergency water access.

“This grant helps turn what was a nuisance in Solebury Township into a protected lake and future public park that will preserve open space, safeguard water resources, and provide lasting recreational and public safety benefits,” said Santarsiero.
