P.J. Whelihan’s Restaurant Group Takes Over Newtown Iron Hill Site

PJW Restaurant Group may be moving into the shuttered Iron Hill in Newtown, as they were approved to assume the lease starting Dec. 31.

A new tenant may be moving into the shuttered Iron Hill in Newtown, as PJW Restaurant Group was approved to assume the lease starting Dec. 31, writes Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The brewpub in the Village at Newtown shopping center, which covers nearly 8,000 square feet, has been empty since September, when Iron Hill filed for liquidation bankruptcy and abruptly closed all of its locations.

The Newtown location was one of the company’s newest, having only opened in 2020.

Brixmor Property Group, the owner of the Village at Newtown, is “excited about what’s in the works” for the space, according to spokesperson Maria Pace, who did not provide any additional details.

PJW Restaurant Group is best known for its P.J. Whelihan’s franchise, a regional bar-and-restaurant chain founded in 1983 in the Poconos. Today, it operates 25 locations, most of them in the Philadelphia area.

Headquartered in Haddon Township, PJW also owns several other restaurants and chains in the region, such as the Pour House, The ChopHouse, The ChopHouse Grille, Central Taco & Tequila, and Treno.
