Amazon recently announced that it will be closing its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go stores, including locations in Middletown, Bensalem, and Warrington, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The company announced it would be shifting its focus to investing more in its Whole Foods Market presence.
“After a careful evaluation of the business and how we can best serve customers, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh physical stores, converting various locations into Whole Foods Market stores,” said the company in a press release.
The first Amazon Fresh location in Bucks County opened in 2021 in Warrington.
After a series of delays, the Bensalem and Middletown locations opened in 2024.
Amazon has yet to announce a timeline for the closures, or which stores will be converted into Whole Foods locations.
The company launched Amazon Fresh in Woodland Hills, California, in 2020. There are currently over 50 Amazon Fresh stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, California, and Washington.
Amazon will be opening new Whole Foods Market Daily Shops, offering “convenience and the neighborhood grocery shopping experience with a curated selection of grab-and-go meals, coffee, and everyday essentials,” said the company.
