Yardley Psychologist and Advocate Pushes for Plus-Size Inclusion at Peloton

Psychologist and advocate Rachel Millner is trying to become Peloton’s first plus-sized cycling instructor.

Rachel Millner, a psychologist and body-positivity advocate from Yardley, is seeking to become Peloton’s first plus-size cycling instructor and make fitness more inclusive, writes Emma Copley Eisenberg for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

She bought her first Peloton bike during the pandemic, and though she wasn’t expecting to like it, it’s become something she very much enjoys.

Millner, who founded her own practice specializing in eating disorder recovery after working at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, had an eating disorder herself. Riding a Peloton regularly helped her build strength, keep up with her dogs on walks and manage stress better.

Unfortunately, Peloton has no plus-size instructors familiar with the challenges of riding while overweight. Millner is seeking to change that and has spent the past two years trying to get hired as an instructor.

“One of Peloton’s core values is about inclusivity and access,” said Millner. “But as fat people, we just get left out of that conversation.”

“I think hiring me would be a good business decision for them because it opens up a whole new market. People want instructors who look like them and who they can trust,” she said.

Peloton has not yet agreed, but she built a 20,000-follower Instagram audience and remains determined to alter that.
