Jacob Barber and Marco Berrocal, friends and students at Bristol High School, support each other in every area of life, from academics and athletics to fire school, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.
Both students devote most of their free time to the high school football team, yet they also make time to volunteer at Bristol Consolidated Fire Station 50.
“We spend most of our time together,” said Barber. “School, we’re in most of the same classes, firefighting, football, it’s a lot.”
Barber hopes to make the Bristol Fire Department one of the best in the county and the state.
Both friends started fire school this summer while also taking part in football practice.
“Fun having someone that’s always there, someone that always knows what I’m going through,” said Berrocal, whose father was a volunteer firefighter. “Football is all physical and mental. Firefighting is the same way. It’s challenging physically and mentally. And what I’ve learned from football has helped me with the fire service and vice versa. I hope to one day become a career firefighter.”
