Joey Bachmann, a fifteen-year-old wrestler from a Quakertown school, has been ranked No. 1 in the nation at his weight class by every ranking service, writes Drew Markol for the Bucks County Courier Times.

“I don’t really think about it (the ranking),” said Bachmann. “I just want to keep getting better and be a part of the team.”

The young athlete’s list of achievements is truly impressive. Just last summer, he won the gold medal in freestyle at the Under 17 Pan American Games in Mexico, representing Puerto Rico. Not much later, he finished third at the Under 17 World Championships in Turkey.

“Getting to wrestle in other countries was really cool,” said Bachmann. “You learn about different places, get to walk around the cities, and see different styles of wrestling. It was a lot of fun.”

The Faith Christian student also boasts a Walsh Ironman title and Beast of the East title on his resume – two of the toughest in-season tournaments in the nation.

“Joey just takes it all in stride,” said Faith Christian head coach Ben Clymer. “When you look at what he’s already done, and how bright his future is, it’s just remarkable.”
