Over the next few weeks, Angel Trees will be placed throughout the Council Rock School District, with the hope of providing Christmas gifts to less fortunate families, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.
Paul Salvatore, a Newtown Rotarian, coordinated the Angel Trees project. Trees are currently located in the Newtown Post Office and the Free Library of Northampton Township in Richboro.
Each angel on the trees lists gift ideas for children and families who receive assistance through Council Rock’s lunch program and the school district’s school nurses and social workers.
Another tree, located in the Newtown Presbyterian Church, contains gift requests from homeless families.
Those interested in participating can select an angel from the tree, purchase the item, and then drop the unwrapped gift off at the library or post office with the angel attached by Dec. 13.
“Please stop by the Newtown Post Office or the Free Library of Northampton Township and select an angel to make a family happy,” said Salvatore. “This is as important for the people who participate as it is for the people who receive because it’s the spirit of the holiday. That’s what it’s all about. It’s about giving, not receiving.”
Gift requests range from art supplies to kitchen appliances, gift cards, and clothing items.
