After 31 years running Phinny Magee’s, his Irish pub in Bristol, owner Max Magee is preparing to retire and has put the building up for sale, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The listing includes the bar, drinks and the huge mirror etched with “Céad Míle Fáilte.”
“It means ‘A Thousand Welcomes’ in Irish,” said Magee.
And of course, a crowd of loyal neighborhood regulars will most likely come with the deal.
Magee and his business partner, Al Phinn, both grew up in Levittown and were neighbors in Bristol’s Kenwood section.
Magee is 79, and has recently suffered a stroke and had to undergo a heart procedure. While he is recovering well, he has decided it is now time to step away from the bar.
Built in the 1940s, the building gained its bar addition in 1953, at the peak of Bristol’s manufacturing era, when workers regularly packed the place for lunch.
Magee has listed the property for $1.1 million. The building also includes several apartments and a space suitable for conversion into an office, and interest has already started coming in.
“But they can’t get the financing,” said Magee.
