The Newtown Rotary Club is holding a food drive at Newtown’s McCaffrey’s Market this Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 AM to 3 PM, to support those who are financially challenged, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.
Rotarians will be collecting a range of non-perishable food items, such as canned fruits and vegetables, oatmeal, crackers, cereal, peanut butter, soup, jelly, applesauce, and canned meats.
Individuals can also make cash donations, which the Gene and Marlene Epstein Foundation will match dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000.
For those who cannot make it to the drive, cash donations can be dropped off at Penns Park United Methodist Church. Monetary donations can also be mailed to the Rotary Club at P.O. Box 123, Penns Park, PA 18943.
Checks should be made payable to the Newtown Rotary Club with the memo “food drive.” Mailed donations must be dated before Nov. 2 to be included in the foundation match.
The non-perishables from this drive will be given to the Wrightstown Food Cupboard.
Zebra-Striped Whale cafe owner and Rotarian Shari Donahue organizes the drive twice a year.
