Locals Decorate Downtown Newtown’s Storefronts with Halloween Window Art

Locals gathered in Newtown this past weekend to paint storefront windows with spooky artwork for the upcoming Halloween Parade on Oct. 25.

In preparation for Newtown’s annual Halloween Parade, locals painted store windows in the business district for the Halloween Art Scene contest, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.

Families, groups and individuals gathered despite the rain to decorate storefronts with pumpkins, skeletons, witches and more.

The Countryside Gallery was decorated by Maddie Adamusko with art inspired by “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Her mother, Carol, was painting ghosts and pumpkins on Zebra-Striped Whale’s windows.

Meanwhile, at Opus Elite Real Estate, Newtown Friends School students were painting a haunted house for “scare.”

State Street Kitchen’s windows became the canvas for a “Stranger Things” painting in anticipation for the show’s return this year.

The local Starbucks was decorated with vintage-style cartoon characters, like a cat, ghost and pumpkin-headed figure.

Girl Scout Troop 21884 from Crossing Community Church painted groups of ghosts on some storefront windows.

Other artwork included a group of swimming sharks, a pair of horses, a zombie holding a flower, a Charlie Brown-inspired display and a cute dragon.

The winners of the Halloween Art Scene contest will be announced on Oct. 25 during the Halloween Parade and posted on the parade’s website. The winners can collect their prizes from the Newtown Bike Shop on North State Street.
