Acclaimed Trumpet Player Offers Lessons to Oxford Valley Elementary Students

Trumpet player and member of the Philly Pops, Matt Gallagher, is teaching the next generation of performers at Oxford Valley Elementary School.

Matt Gallagher, a renowned trumpet player, is teaching a new generation of musicians at Oxford Valley Elementary School in Fairless Hills, reports Eva Andersen for CBS News Philadelphia.

Along with his role as a music teacher, Gallagher is also a member of the beloved Philly Pops. This weekend, he will be joining the orchestra for a performance at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia

Gallagher has been involved with the Pops for 15 years and currently serves as the principal trumpet player.

After the pandemic, the group dissolved and began performing as the No Name Pops until this year. The orchestra has finally reassembled and is returning as the Philly Pops once again.

“We perform all over the Greater Philadelphia area, but the Kimmel Center is where people know where we perform,” he said.

The Luck Be a Lady concert is showcasing music from Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and more, and Gallagher will have a solo.

This is a special moment for the trumpeter, who began his musical career as a band student at Upper Darby High School.

For his students, Gallagher is a role model and an example of what you can achieve if you work hard.
