Father from Bucks County Saves Child Stuck on Monorail at Hersheypark

John Sampson, a Jamison resident, saved a child stuck on the monorail at Hersheypark this past weekend when he was visiting with his family.

This past weekend, John Sampson, a veterinarian from Jamison, saved a child stuck on the monorail at Hersheypark, reports Leland Pinder for 6abc

Sampson was with his wife and children at the theme park when a commotion broke out. A young boy was wandering on the monorail above the crowd as people tried to direct him to safety.

He leapt into action, scaling a nearby building before eventually making his way onto the monorail itself.

The young boy reached for Sampson, who, with the help of another man, managed to get him to safety.

“I just went into rescue mode,” he said. “I didn’t hear any of the other screaming because I was just really trying to find a way to get to the top of the building in order to help.”

The child had been reported missing after getting separated from his family twenty minutes before the incident.

Sampson stated he was simply in the right place at the right time, and his instincts as a father kicked in.

“That’s what I think anybody would try to do. Any parent would want to save any child, whether it’s theirs or not,” he said.

The child’s family reached out to Sampson to extend their gratitude, as did Hersheypark in a recent statement.
