Donna Morey, from Hatfield, was celebrating her 80th birthday at the Phillies stadium when she received an amazing present from a total stranger, reports Jennifer Lee for FOX 29 Philadelphia.
Morey was sitting near the third baseline with her daughters on September 10, in her Phillies jersey that sports her name.
Jameson Pennings, a nine-year-old boy who was at the ball game with his parents, decided to make her day even more special.
“I was absolutely amazed, because he must have overheard my daughter talk to the ball girl about the next foul that comes down, would she consider giving it to me for my birthday,” said Morey. “All of a sudden, this boy says to his dad, ‘I want to give that lady my ball,’ and his father says, ‘Are you sure about this,’ and the little boy looked at the ball in his glove and says yeah.”
Morey learned it was the only ball the boy had ever caught at a game, but felt it would mean more as a gift than to keep it. For his kindness, Jameson received his own ball in the final inning.
