Newtown Township’s board of supervisors recently honored local Fire Chief Glenn Forsyth for his 50 years of public service, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
Forsyth joined the Newtown Fire Association as a junior firefighter, eventually becoming an active member in 1975. After joining, he rose through the ranks and became the first paid fire chief in the township in 2012.
He previously served as trustee, battalion chief, president and safety officer in the NFA.
Chairwoman Elen Snyder was among the five board members presenting Forsyth with a proclamation to commemorate this milestone.
“Chief Forsyth began his career as a volunteer firefighter with the Newtown Fire Association with courage, selflessness, and dedication,” said Snyder. “Chief Forsyth rose through the ranks to become the fire chief, providing leadership, support, and camaraderie with his fellow firefighters.”
Forsyth was joined by his family and several of his colleagues at the department and thanked them for making the last 50 years possible.
“I spent the first 28 years with the police department and now I’m going to finish my career in the fire department,” Forsyth said. “Thank you to the board. Thank you to the fire service. And thank you to the community for allowing me to serve.”
