Perkasie Artist Advocates for Creativity’s Role in Today’s Digital World

An artist and advocate from Perkasie, Rebecca Barraclough, recently spoke about the importance and benefits of exercising our creativity.

Rebecca Barraclough, an advocate and artist from Perkasie, recently discussed the importance of engaging in hands-on creative activities for both personal well-being and the good of the larger community, writes staff for WRAL News

In our society, where we’ve become so reliant on the digital world, Barraclough stresses the need for creativity. Not only does it assist with mental and emotional health, but it also unites us and preserves our culture.

“There’s this idea that art belongs to professionals or institutions,” she said. “But really, it’s a birthright. Everyone has the capacity to create. It just takes access, encouragement, and time.”

Barraclough noted how art and tactile activities have helped her. Carving, gardening and painting have allowed her to express herself and calm her mind.

She discussed how exercising creativity can be a transformative thing, and all one needs to do is take the time to do it.

“It can be as simple as keeping a visual diary,” Barraclough said. “Or sharing a block print with a neighbor. We don’t need galleries or followers to create meaningful art.”

She noted that activities like pottery and hand stitching are excellent tactile-based options that people can try.

Individuals can volunteer their artistic talent to local organizations or create something for themselves to nurture their creativity.
