Cescaphe CEO Renovating 51-Year-Old Sand Castle Winery in Erwinna

Joe Volpe, CEO of Cescaphe, is renovating the former Sand Castle Winery in Erwinna to reopen as Blind Fox Vineyard.

Joe Volpe, CEO of Philadelphia events company Cescaphe, is renovating the former Sand Castle Winery in Erwinna and reopening under the name Blind Fox Vineyard, working alongside his wife and daughters, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Volpe expects to reopen the 72-acre property to the public this fall, with wine tasting experiences and guided vineyard tours.

“This reimagined estate will celebrate a rich tapestry of European varietals, including cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, riesling, and pinot noir—each cultivated with care and vision,” he said.

Volpe bought the property in May of last year for $2.35 million from the Maxian family, whose members Joseph and Paul Maxian founded the original winery in 1974.

Blind Fox Vineyard will produce a private label wine offered exclusively at Cescaphe’s eight wedding venues in the region but remain a separate entity. It will also sell directly to customers.

In its new iteration, Blind Fox Vineyard will pivot from Sand Castle Winery’s varietals of cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, riesling and pinot noir to produce dry wines instead.

“We can just start fresh in a lot of ways,” said head wine maker Andrew Misialek.
