Brandon Hughes, a former Philadelphia Eagle, is set to join the Falls Township Police Department as a street patrolman, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Hughes, who was hired by the board of supervisors on July 29, will be sworn in on Aug. 5.
Wearing No. 27 during his time with the Eagles, Hughes spent several years as a volunteer physical trainer at the Falls Youth Police Academy before being recruited into the department.
Lieutenant Christopher Clark stated that he would be going to the police academy and assigned to the patrol division. Hughes passed a police skills test in May.
“Our recruitment unit was there and spoke with all examinees,” said Clark. “Brandon applied to Falls upon successfully passing the examination.”
Hughes received a warm welcome from Chief Nelson Whitney.
“We’re happy to have him,” said Whitney. “We have many community-driven programs and I’m sure he will want to be part of that, too.”
Hughes played five seasons in the NFL, three of them with the Birds. He will handle routine patrol duties such as ticketing speeders and arresting drunk drivers.
