Several organizations are offering summer meal programs in Bucks County to ensure children have access to free lunches, helping families struggling with food insecurity, writes Chris Ullery for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The Bucks County Opportunity Council (BCOC) is offering approximately 300 meals per week until Aug. 22. These meals are part of the Philabundance Summer Lunchbox Program.
Families in need can visit Fresh Connect at Quakertown Memorial Park between 11 AM and 1 PM on Wednesdays. Attendees must register beforehand. Fresh Connect has additional locations in Bristol, Warminster and Nockamixon.
St. Luke’s Community Health Department is providing free lunches in Quakertown until Aug. 22. Children can visit Free Fall Action Park Mondays through Fridays between 12 PM and 2 PM for lunch.
On Fridays, children will be provided with non-perishable food items to bring home to their families.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is offering the Summer Nutrition Program for Kids (SUN) at multiple Bucks County locations. Children under 18 can access SUN meals and eat on-site or, in some rural locations, pick up meals to go.
Some participating organizations include the Salvation Army of Lower Bucks County, the River Crossing YMCA, Harry S Truman High School and the Family Unity Center.
