Plumstead Names Township Police Chief as First Director of Public Safety

Police Chief David Mettin has been named Plumstead Township's first director of public safety.

Plumstead has named Police Chief David Mettin as its first director of public safety, a new role created to deliver coordinated, sustainable and high-quality public safety services to the community, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

In his new role, the chief will oversee police department operations. He will act as a liaison between the township and its volunteer fire and EMS services.

The supervisors created the position to strengthen interdepartmental coordination and ensure around-the-clock delivery of emergency services. It will also help promote long-term sustainability across all public safety functions.

“Chief Mettin is uniquely positioned to lead this effort. He has extensive career experience in public safety that includes a record of navigating and implementing change, developing organizational structure, while maintaining a high level of service,” said Stacey Mulholland, township manager. “This appointment marks an important step forward in enhancing the township’s ability to protect lives and property, and to respond effectively to the needs of our community.”

As Director of Public Safety, Mettin will also oversee a 21st-century Fire and Rescue Service program, as outlined in the second-class township code.
