Montco is ramping up its fight against homelessness thanks to a $1.2 million boost from the state’s PHARE (Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement) fund, writes Rachel Ravina for Main Line Times & Suburban. The funding will bolster the county’s Your Way Home initiative, with efforts focused on rapid rehousing, emergency shelter operations, and outreach for unhoused residents.
“This PHARE funding strengthens the county’s ongoing efforts to reduce homelessness, expand housing access, and provide critical resources for residents in need,” said a county spokesperson.
The grant doesn’t stop at county programs. It’s spread across a dozen local organizations to meet a variety of needs. Notable allocations include $350,000 for the Salvation Army’s Norristown shelter, $250,000 for Habitat for Humanity’s critical home repairs, and $375,000 for The Indian Creek Foundation to build homes for disabled individuals in Souderton.
Other beneficiaries include Mosaic Community Land Trust in Pottstown, Genesis Housing Corporation in Norristown, and the Montgomery County Housing Authority.
Projects range from fall prevention in affordable senior housing and rental assistance. This funding represents a wide-ranging investment in housing stability across Montco.
