The Delaware River Sojourn recently took place for its 30th year, offering people the chance to enjoy peaceful days paddling down the river, writes Preston Ehrler for Delaware Currents.
Around 100 individuals participated in the sojourn, which spanned 6 days and approximately 70 miles.
The trip began in Balls Eddy, where participants hopped into their kayaks and canoes, ready to start their journey. People from all over the East Coast traveled to Pennsylvania to enjoy the experience.
Those involved noted how serene and peaceful the sojourn is, allowing them to take a break from their busy lives.
“It’s kind of a meditation,” said Helena Garan, a Binghamton, New York, resident originally from the Netherlands. Garan’s love for kayaking has led her to go on the sojourn many times.
One of the sojourn’s original planners, Sandy Schultz, has participated in every trip down the Delaware River for the past 30 years.
“It always boils down to the people,” she said. “The people who share an interest or share a commitment to the environment or to this event. So, I have these friendships that developed over 30 years. The people I see one time a year only, and this is our week to be together.”
