Chester County fans of Cuba Libre in Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood now have a brand-new spot much closer to home to hang out at, writes Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The popular restaurant’s parent company, GuestCounts Hospitality, has recently taken over three restaurants in the city’s suburbs, including Bomba Taco + Bar in Malvern and Newtown. They were previously owned by the Cleveland-based Paladar Restaurant Group.
“As longtime Philadelphia operators, taking over management from a Midwest-owned group gives us the opportunity to bring our local history, knowledge, and connections to these already very successful concepts,” said GuestCounts’ cofounder Barry Gutin.
The flavors of Cuba Libre will be featured at all newly acquired spots.
“We’ll share food and beverage recipes, including bringing inspiration from Cuba Libre’s amazing empanadas and award-winning mojito recipes to our new restaurants,” said Gutin.
Gutin, along with partners Larry Cohen and Bob Gallo, will invest a minimum of $500,000 in upgrades for new additions. These improvements include enhanced sound systems, additional televisions, and upgraded outdoor seating areas.
The new owners plan to extend the hours of Bomba Taco + Bar this summer by introducing late-night happy hours and weekend events.
