Middletown recently rezoned over 100 acres of the Woods Services campus through an overlay ordinance that features plans for an affordable apartment building, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The rezoning fixes a longstanding zoning error in the area. Additionally, it updates the process for proposals related to the nonprofit’s future developments in the township.
“I trust Woods, I believe in Woods, I believe in the work that they are doing, I believe in the people they are helping, not just in our community but even more broadly,” said Middletown Board of Supervisors chair Mike Ksiazek. “And I think that they want to stay viable, that they want to be here for the long term and I believe that this will enhance their ability to do that.”
The ordinance passed in a 4-1 vote. It covers 113 acres within the nonprofit’s campus. This adds up to about 100 acres less than was originally asked for five months ago.
With this new zoning in place, Woods Services plans to build an apartment building with 42 units. The nonprofit earmarked 20 percent twenty percent for individuals who have intellectual disabilities.
