Langhorne zoners voted down a plan by Toll Mid-Atlantic to build 60 homes.

Langhorne zoners voted Monday against allowing Toll Mid-Atlantic to build 60 townhomes in the borough, writes Peg Quann for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The decision prompted raucous applause from residents who attended the meeting and shared their opposition to the plan for the 14.7-acre Wood Services site located between Pine Street and Bellevue Avenue.

Among the major concerns expressed were increased traffic and crowded parking, along with sewer capacity. Residents were also worried that if the plan were approved, this would set a precedent for future similar developments.

“It would change the look, feel, and nature … of the borough for generations,” said resident Douglas Hanisch.

Resident Keith Carman emphasized that the small community is a true rarity.

“When you have something special like this area, you should really try your best to preserve it,” said Carman.

Since the zoning law did not allow for as many buildings to be placed on the two parcels that make up the site, Toll had asked the zoners to instead consider the townhomes as structures. The developer also requested over 20 variances to the zoning code regarding setbacks, driveways, and other items.
