Family-Owned Asher’s Chocolate Spreading Joy in Souderton for Five Generations

Family-owned Asher’s Chocolate has been creating delicious treats in Souderton for five generations and takes pride in producing some of the nation’s finest chocolate, reports Christie Ileto for 6abc.

The company makes everything from chocolate-covered pretzels and Graham crackers to caramels and chocolate coffee bags.

The factory where all the sweet and savory treats are made spans 125,000 square feet and produces more than 500 products year-round. While the company has been at its current facility for the past 25 years, it has been in operation since 1892.

The founder of the company was Chester Asher, a Canadian immigrant who learned his trade in Buffalo, New York before moving to Philadelphia, which was a hotbed of the candy industry at the time.

He “started a shop down in Center City,” said his great great grandson, also named Chester. “We moved to Germantown for a hundred years and then kind of never looked back.”

Initially, the business also offered jams, jellies, ice creams, and a variety of other sweets before opting to focus solely on chocolates. Today, around a hundred people at the Montgomery County facility help deliver the sweetness that can be found in every pack of their delicious chocolate.
