New Hope’s Bradley Cooper has partnered with Philadelphia restaurateur Danny DiGiampietro on Danny & Coop’s to bring the city’s beloved sandwich to New Yorkers, to delicious results, writes Helen Rosner for The New Yorker.
The cheesesteak offered at the new addition to the New York food scene is a hefty twelve-incher, with a tasty roll filled with smooth and saucy Cooper Sharp cheese and tender sliced rib-eye steak, laced with caramelized onion.
The quality of the sandwich is no surprise, given that DiGiampietro owns Angelo’s Pizzeria, home to one of the best cheesesteaks in Philadelphia.
Known also for his outstanding pizza, DiGiampietro prioritizes quality, setting himself apart in a field too often dominated by sodium-heavy “wit’ wiz” and rubbery industrial steak.
Cooper, meanwhile, approaches cheesesteaks with the same dedication he brings to his acting and directorial work. In the early days of the restaurant, which began as a food truck, he was often in the kitchen, helping to prep the food.
However, even though he is not there as frequently now and the celebrity buzz has cooled, the lines remain just as long, sometimes stretching to an hour.
