Judith Schaechter’s immersive, dome-shaped stained glass installation is currently on display at the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, writes Sarah Archer for The New York Times.
The artwork is best experienced from inside. Once seated on the small bench, you will find yourself surrounded by the vivid glow of birds, stars, insects, and fantastical plants and roots.
“I am not a religious person, but it is hard not to feel overcome by a sense of awe and wonder when you enter the dome,” said Laura Turner Igoe, chief curator at the Michener Art Museum.
The eight-foot-tall work, along with nine glass panels and two drawings exploring humanity’s relationship with the cosmos, is part of the Judith Schaechter: Super/Natural exhibit, on view through September 14.
