With the help of The Giving Tree, a nonprofit focused on fostering charity work in youth, Bucks County students are making a difference in their communities, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.

The nonprofit’s programs are integrated into local schools through projects that are designed to inspire kids into developing a lifelong habit of giving back.

“The mission of The Giving Tree is to teach kids to give back through hands-on service projects and learning curriculum,” said Bridget Leary, Executive Director of The Giving Tree. “The kids are learning about their community, and it will help them make better decisions as adults.”

Willow Dale Elementary School in Warminster was one of many schools that recently participated in the Sock Roll project. For the project, the students wrap food items inside socks, which are then delivered to local shelters. Last year, more than 21,000 socks were distributed to 102 shelters.

“I think it’s amazing to watch the children do these projects and see the joy that they feel when they’re giving,” said Leary. “They want to help others and they want to give back. They just need the opportunity.”
