Levittown Native Turns Childhood Memories Into Original Christmas Musical
Levittown native Righteous Jolly has transformed his season surname and turned it into a bonafide original musical theater production, writes Jo Ciavaglia for Bucks County Courier Times.
Called “A Levittown Christmas Carol,” the musical is about feel-good nostalgia associated with the 41 Levittown neighborhoods. Some of the references include Egan school dances, swimming at the LPRA pools, 24-hour diners, CYO basketball games, and Wawa.
As a junior at Truman High School, Jolly tried out for a part in the school musical having never acted or sang in front of people before.
However, upon being called to the stage, he panicked and started telling bawdy, inappropriate stories about what happened to him the week before.
The audience started to scream with laughter and it was at that moment, he discovered his improv skills.
“I’ll never forget that feeling,” Jolly said. “I was brave and it was that sort of bravery that changed my life because if you don’t take a risk, you don’t get a reward.”
For over 20 years, Jolly has worked as an actor, musician, singer, and dilatant.
His latest work “A Levittown Christmas Carol,” is set to debut at New Hope Arts Center on December 19.
