With Christmas classics popping up in theaters across the region, one of them has proven to be a huge hit for Bristol Riverside Theatre, writes Jane M. Von Bergen for Billy Penn at WHYY.

In fact, ‘A Christmas Story: The Play‘ is now the best selling play in the history of the theater.

Co-producing director Ken Kaissar was delighted to see ticket sales climb for the classic comedy that tells the story of the mishaps separating a boy and a special gift. The play is based on the popular 1983 movie of the same name.

“This might be our best-selling play in our 37-year history,” he said. “I had no idea how popular the movie was. People claim to know it by heart.”

People are showing up to the play wearing ‘Christmas Story‘-themed ties and socks.

“It really puts you in the holiday spirit,” said Kaissar.

The show will run through December 31.
