The Bucks County SPCA encourages people to adopt older pets from shelters and rescues during November, National Adopt a Senior Pet Month.

The Bucks County SPCA is encouraging those looking for a new furry best friend to consider adopting older pets from Pennsylvania shelters and rescues this November, write Patrick Berkery and Brook Bolen for The Keystone.

This is in honor of National Adopt a Senior Pet Month,

“People are usually drawn to playful pups and energetic, cuddly kittens, but that often comes at the expense of shelter animals who have a little frosting around the muzzle,” said Cindy Kelly, director of communication and development for the Bucks County SPCA.

National Adopt a Senior Pet Month serves as a perfect reminder that older pets can also make ideal companions. These pets are a great fit for those who are looking for the company of a mellower four-legged friend.

“You adopt a pet that’s nine, ten years old, and they have fewer demands in terms of their energy level,” said Kelly. “They’re generally a little more relaxed and wonderful companions. And it’s a joy to give them that comfortable place to enjoy those golden years.”

As a bonus, adopting from a shelter creates room for another animal looking for a forever home.
