Newtown Nonprofit Donates $100K to Penn Medicine for Pancreatic Cancer Research and Development
Newtown-based nonprofit A Love for Life has donated $100,000 to Penn Medicine to support its pancreatic cancer research and development teams, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
Therese Marmion, head of the development team, and Dr. Benjamin Stanger, leader of the pancreatic cancer research team, met with the nonprofit’s volunteers and board members earlier this week to accept the donation and provide updates on the diagnosis and treatment of the deadly disease.
A Love for Life was formed by Christine Edmonds of Newtown after her husband Kevin passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2012. Her sister-in-law, Nora, also died from the same disease in 2009.
During Wednesday’s visit, Edmonds met with her husband’s oncologist, Dr. Nevena Damjanov, and his Nurse Navigator, Patricia Gambino, MSN, RN. The nonprofit representatives also met with Dr. Mark O’Hara, who has supported their fundraising efforts. He is also a member of the group’s dragon boat team.
“Although things did not turn out the way we hoped with Kevin’s eventual outcome, we are so thankful for all of the hard work and dedication that his entire team invested,” said Edmonds.
