Holy Ghost Prep’s baseball team received special recognition after securing the first baseball state championship in the school’s history, writes Ross DiMattei and Paxton Reese for CBS Philadelphia.

The Bensalem team was treated to a pep rally earlier this week, with music, games, and a raucous sendoff. The players and their coaches then got on a bus heading to the state capitol in Harrisburg, where they were honored by state leaders.

The team captured the school’s first-ever PIAA state baseball title on June 13 in walk-off fashion. They defeated Indiana 6-5 at Penn State University.

The game-winning double was delivered by sophomore Mat Riendeau down the left-field line to score Colin Davis, a third baseman and current sophomore.

“We knew that we could come back, like we just did throughout the entire season,” said Matthew Evans, an outfielder. “So I think it was awesome to see us really come together as a team and battle back for that state win.”

Holy Ghost Prep believes it can repeat the feat next year as fifteen of the team’s varsity players are returning, led by a star-studded junior class.
