Which Grocery Chain Run the Most Bucks County Stores? The Washington Post Knows
Over the past 30 years, the traditional supermarket industry has shrunk due to the handful of big-name grocers that have acquired their smaller local and regional rivals, write Kevin Schaul and Jaclyn Peiser for The Washington Post.
According to a Washington Post analysis of OpenStreetMap location data, Walmart, Kroger, Aldi, and Albertsons own about one-third of all grocery store locations in the United States.
Now, a federal judge in Portland is deciding whether Kroger and Albertsons can move forward with a merger to become the biggest supermarket union in U.S. history.
In Bucks County, Ahold Delhaize, whose top store is Giant, owns 22 percent of grocery stores in the county.
Aldi follows that at 12 percent; Albertsons, whose top store is Acme, and Walmart, which owns Sam’s Club, are both at 9 percent, respectively.
Rounding out the list are Target at 6 percent, and Redner’s and ShopRite both at 4 percent each.
