The Bensalem Fire Rescue Department has been awarded a FEMA grant to enhance firefighter safety through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant.

The Bensalem Township Fire Rescue Department has been awarded a $132,727 FEMA grant to enhance firefighter safety through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, writes Dino Ciliberti for The Patch.

This funding will enable the department to upgrade its outdated Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), which is essential for protecting firefighters in hazardous environments.

SCBA, commonly known as air packs, provide breathable air in smoke-filled or toxic conditions, ensuring firefighter safety. The new units incorporate advanced technology and safety features not present in the old equipment.

The grant will cover 14 SCBA harnesses, 28 air bottles, 14 facepieces, and a RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) pack.
