The event honored veterans in and around the area.

Nine local fire companies were recently on hand in Bucks County to welcome home veterans after their visit to the nation’s capital. Dino Ciliberti wrote about the event for the Bensalem Patch.

The Bucks County Tour of Honor provides transportation to military veterans from the Bucks County area to Washington D.C. There, they visit the memorials, buildings, and other places that stand for the country’s ideals.

The trip, which is free for the veterans, is concluded with a “Welcome Home” celebration hosted by Parx Casino on Street Road in Bensalem. The celebration includes dinner and entertainment.

“At present, our major focus is WWII veterans and terminally ill veterans, who are given top priority,” the organization said. “We are also accepting applications for Korean War veterans at this time.”

The fire companies that welcomed the veterans included Trevose Fire Company, Penndel Volunteer Fire Company #1, Station 8, Cornwells Fire Company- Station 16, and the Warminster Fire Department. Also present were Newport Fire Company, Bensalem EMS, Eddington Fire Company – Station 28, Feasterville Fire Company, and Bensalem Fire Rescue.
