Tierra Whack has had a whirlwind spring that included the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, a great Tiny Desk performance on NPR, and winning a serious battle with depression.
Whack can point to a number of things that serve as inspiration to her, writes Manakaprr Contech for Rolling Stone.
A foodie, Whack highlights eateries like Spurce Street Harbor, Kalaya, Youma, and Mamajuana Cafe as among her favorites within the Philadelphia food scene.
Coming off the release of her debut album, “World Wide Whack,” she explained that Pinterest helped her create the album’s elaborate world. As a brand partner, Whack showed off her personal World Wide Whack Pinterest board.
Pinterest now has it own Board Sharing feature to make collaboration and observation more seamless.
“I’m in the studio and I’m just like, ‘Yo, let me open up my Pinterest account because I have so much cool stuff saved on here.’ It’s like a filing cabinet, man,” Whack said.
Another inspiration is the 1993 film, “Sister Act 2,” as the plot of the movie reminds her of her own life.
While auditioning to get into the Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush, she actually performed two songs from the film.
