Newtown native Alex Cooper has made significant strides in the media industry since her rise to fame with the popular podcast “Call Her Daddy,” writes Sarah Ashley O’Brien for The Wall Street Journal.
In 2021, Cooper inked a groundbreaking three-year, $60 million deal with Spotify. As this agreement nears its end, Cooper is setting her sights on expanding her influence and building a larger entertainment empire.
Cooper and her husband, film producer Matt Kaplan, founded Trending, a media company aimed at Gen Z audiences.
Through a subsidiary called Unwell, Cooper is recruiting online personalities to host new podcasts, seeking out buzzworthy books to option, and developing reality shows.
She is also on the hunt for a new distribution partner for “Call Her Daddy,” aiming to secure a $100 million deal, a hefty sum in an industry that has seen budget cuts and layoffs.
Her podcast “Call Her Daddy” averages around 10 million listeners per episode and has become an A-list press stop for celebrities like Megan Fox, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, and John Mayer.
Cooper’s ambition is reflected in Trending’s initiatives, including signing TikTok stars Alix Earle and Madeline Argy, and expanding into areas such as merchandise and events.
Cooper’s knack for identifying and nurturing talent is evident in Unwell’s success, with recent merchandise drops selling over seven figures each.
