According to Bucks County experts, the rare 1982 Roosevelt dimes are not worth that $1,000, despite speculation.

According to Bucks County experts, the rare 1982 Roosevelt dimes that are the subject of speculation that prices them at $1,000 are not worth remotely that much, writes Adriana Herrera for the Bucks County Courier Times.

According to Michael Levin, a coin collector and buyer at Bucks County Rare Coin & Precious Metals in Sellersville, the worth of the coins is anywhere between $50 and $100. Meanwhile, a source from Eddie Hipps & Sons Rare Coins said “they are worth $9 – $10.”

The Roosevelt dime is a rare error coin sought after by collectors for decades. The dime was produced without the “P” mint mark by accident. The letter usually signifies it was minted in Philadelphia.

These error coins originally gained attention in the collector community shortly after their production in 1982. The $1,000 “rumor” started because many believe that the flaw makes it stand out more.

However, such coins are available on eBay usually at double-digit prices, while their price in coin shops ranges between $9 and $100, depending on their condition.
