About 50 people gathered at Mercer Museum in Doylestown to discuss how Bucks County can better support its growing immigrant population, writes Emily Neil for WHYY.

The Welcoming Center’s Immigrant Leadership Institute organized the event, encouraging participants to voice their challenges and propose actionable solutions for local officials.

Attendees were divided into groups to identify issues and brainstorm solutions, which will later be presented to the county commissioners.

Key suggestions included providing bilingual information about public transportation, offering virtual English classes, and improving access to healthcare resources for the uninsured.

Long-time resident Aurelio Chavez Morales, who moved to Bucks County from Mexico 24 years ago, stressed the importance of statewide changes to help immigrants, such as permitting all Pennsylvania residents to obtain driver’s licenses regardless of immigration status.

The event was part of a broader initiative by La Red de Liderazgo, a group founded for Latino immigrants in Bucks County.
