Malvern’s Tague Davis, Son of Phillies Broadcaster Ben Davis, One of Area’s Top Baseball Prospects
Malvern Prep senior Tague Davis, the son of Phillies broadcaster Ben Davis, who spent seven seasons as a catcher in the big leagues, is one of the area’s top baseball prospects, writes Joseph Santoliquito for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The first baseman has already committed to the University of Louisville. He is hitting .375 with a team-high five home runs and he recorded 32 RBIs, a .694 slugging percentage, and 27 hits in 72 at-bats.
This season, he has also matured enough as a pitcher to be able to consider the possibility of playing first base and pitching at Louisville.
Davis is following a similar path to that of his dad, who was the second overall pick by the San Diego Padres in the 1995 draft out of Malvern Prep.
“One of the great joys of my life was throwing to my dad,” said Davis. “It’s been that way since I was 10. But occasionally, I would let one go where he had to reach up and get it. He would yell, ‘I’m too old for this!’ I loved it.”
