Newtown Township is set to become a new hub for pickleball enthusiasts by converting a vacant store into an indoor facility.

Newtown Township is set to become a new hub for pickleball enthusiasts. The Planning Commission has endorsed plans to convert the vacant Bed Bath & Beyond store at 20 West Road into an 11-court indoor pickleball facility by The Picklr, a Utah-based company, writes Alex Irving for NewtownPANow.

Peggy Driscoll, chair of the Planning Commission, announced that the 30,000-square-foot space will be transformed into a membership-only club.

The proposal received conditional use approval and awaits a final vote from the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors. If approved, the facility could open within 12 weeks.

The new venue will feature professional-grade outdoor surfacing, a pro shop, private event areas, league play, locker rooms, and showers. This would be The Picklr’s first location in Pennsylvania

Pickleball has seen a significant rise in popularity, with an 85 percent increase in players in 2022, totaling 8.9 million nationwide.

Since opening its first indoor location in 2021, The Picklr has expanded to 275 locations across the U.S. The new Newtown Township facility aims to cater to the growing demand for pickleball venues.
