Doylestown kicked off Pride Month with a vibrant celebration on June 1, featuring a unique blend of cultural festivities, writes Ed Doyle for Tap into Doylestown.
The annual flag-raising event, held on the lawn of the old courthouse, was given an extra splash of color this year with the addition of a Holi celebration, courtesy of the local group, Desis of Doylestown.
As tradition dictates, the LGBTQ community’s elders passed a large pride flag to younger members, who proudly hoisted it up the pole.
Following the flag-raising, Desis of Doylestown introduced the crowd to Holi, the Indian festival of colors.
A speaker from Desis of Doylestown highlighted the importance of embracing diversity and reveling in our differences, aligning perfectly with the values of Pride Month.
The colorful celebration brought a joyful and energetic atmosphere to the usually reserved courthouse lawn, with attendees of all ages participating in the festivities.
The celebration continued as part of the group joined a block party on Printer’s Alley, organized by the Rainbow Room youth.
The evening concluded with the raising of a second pride flag across from the borough’s headquarters, marking the start of a colorful and inclusive Pride Month in Doylestown.
