Bucks County lawmaker Kristin Marcell is behind Pennsylvania’s newly passed bill that aims to improve care in nursing facilities across the state, writes Jeff Werner for The Patch.

The bill mandates annual meetings between the Department of Health’s Nursing Care Field Officers and staff from licensed nursing facilities.

These meetings are aimed at sharing insights on survey results, identifying trends, and discussing best practices.

The initiative is championed by State Rep. Melissa Shusterman from Chester County and co-sponsored by State Rep. Marcell, both of whom emphasize HB 1853’s new role in fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes the well-being of over 60,000 residents in Pennsylvania’s nursing homes.

Rep. Shusterman highlighted the bill’s importance in improving communication between healthcare providers and regulatory bodies to enhance senior care.

Similarly, Rep. Marcell noted the bill’s contribution to building a robust public health infrastructure, ensuring a transparent and effective relationship that enhances the quality of care.
