Styer Orchard in Langhorne Expands with New Fruit Trees to Welcome Spring
Styer Orchard in Langhorne is getting ready for spring with rapid additions to its fields, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The orchard will bring almost 1,000 new trees, consisting of cherry, apple, and peach. The tart cherry trees, which will make up a quarter of the newly planted trees, will be on “midget-type root stock” and planted closer together.
Tart cherries have more flavor and less sugar, according to Tim Field the operator of the township-owned orchard.
There will be three varieties of peach, which make up half of the total newly planted trees, and four varieties of apples, which make up a quarter of the new trees.
Out of the 200 apple trees planted, the varieties will include Stayman, Fuji, Arkansas Black, and Golden Delicious.
