Styer Orchard in Middletown can help you decide on a holiday treat by offering samples of its 25 varieties of pies.

If you are unsure what holiday dessert you desire, Styer Orchard in Middletown can help you decide by offering samples of its 25 varieties of pies, writes Peg Quann for the Bucks County Courier Times.

You can try five different pies for $1. The samples are called “pie flights,” similar to beer flights offered by breweries to their patrons.

Tim Field, president of Styer Orchard, started giving away samples last holiday season. This year, he brought the feature back during Thanksgiving, however, they became so popular that he started charging a small fee to help with the costs. Styer will offer samples until Christmas.

Some of the more popular pies are Fruit of the Forest, the Gourmet Apple Pie, and the Caramel Apple Walnut.

Many of the orchard’s pies are prepared by Special Touch, a Rochester, New York, bakery that employs workers with special needs.

Field, who admits he “stole” the sample idea from another farm, said the feature helped boost Styer pie sales into the thousands.

To ensure you get your pie for Christmas, you have to place an order by December 21.
