A Levittown man is spotlighting the necessity for blood donations after needing five blood transfusions due to a medical condition, reports Christie Ileto for 6 ABC.

As the Red Cross hosted a recent blood drive, supply levels are at their lowest in nearly two decades.

John Fisher from Levittown stresses the importance of giving blood, as his life was saved during a vacation.

Fisher, who has Crohn’s Disease, says he lost a lot of blood due to gastrointestinal bleeding.

Fisher was in the ICU in Colorado for two days. He believes that without blood transfusions, he wouldn’t be alive to tell his story.

His wife, Sue Lowenstein has always been a frequent donor. But after her husband’s life-saving donation, she’s making it a habit to give every six to eight weeks.

“Without people donating blood, I would be a widow right now,” she said.

The Red Cross says that all blood types are needed, but there is an emergency request for type O.
