When sisters and entrepreneurs Dr. Kala and Dr. Maya Johnstone started FoodChasers’ Kitchen in Elkins Park, little did they know that they would be getting a famous shoutout.

Before the Super Bowl, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was asked at a press conference about the best place in Philly to grab a cheesesteak. He named the Johnstones’ Kitchen, and soon enough popularity ensued.

The restaurant, which was known for its breakfast items, ended up using 100 pounds of beef following the name drop and its sales of the beloved Philly sandwich skyrocketed over 300 percent, writes Zach Berman for The Athletic.

Hurts first visited the twins’ restaurant in June of 2022 when the signature cheesesteak first came into fruition.

While the twins, both authors and former school principals, have an older brother who played 11 seasons for the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings, they will always pledge allegiance to Kelly green and remain Eagles fans.

In addition to delicious breakfast items, catering services, and the specialty cheesesteaks, the Elkins Park restaurant partners with inner-city schools to fund therapeutic calming spaces, book scholarships, and field trips.
