Doylestown-based Instinct Science came full circle after it recently acquired Oklahoma-based VetMedux, the company it spun out of six years ago, for an undisclosed sum, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

VetMedux, which also has Doylestown roots, was founded in 2002. The company’s shareholders received a combination of cash and equity from the deal.

Instinct Science first introduced the Instinct Treatment Plan to the market. The program digitized the process of recording pet treatment plans. The company launched Instinct EMR in 2021, which is a full-practice workflow management system that is now used by some of the world’s largest animal hospitals.

The company has recorded explosive growth over the last several years, from 25 to 60, and now to 130 after the acquisition.

VetMedux’s three main products – Plumb’s, Plumb’s Pro, and Clinician’s Brief – reach around 260,000 veterinarians worldwide.

“We don’t plan to do anything with them, other than make them better at what they already do,” said founder Caleb Frankel. “The obvious synergies are that now we can integrate them in really innovative ways, deeper ways into our products so that our hospitals can get more out of them.”
